Type 1 diabetes

In patients with type 1 diabetes, who are typically children and young adults, the body does not produce insulin. Without insulin, the body cannot get the glucose it breaks down from sugars and starches into its cells to use for energy. However, insulin therapy and other treatments can help even young children manage their condition.
